Hiking Le Cinque Terre

A glorious stretch of weather this October.  Perfect for hiking Le Cinque Terre.  Took the train to Spezia and transferred, got off at Riomaggiore. Spent a wonderful afternoon hiking the trail, wondering the five lovely towns.  Stopped in Vernazza for lunch and then took the ferry to Monterosso al Mare.

The ocean and vista was a start contrast to the city streets of Firenze.  The train was comfortable and people on the train were delightfully friendly.  I enjoyed spending the day with four young women who are all studying abroad.  A perfect day trip if you do not have more time to spend.

  1. I hope you don’t mind doing that hike again because it looks amazing and I MUST do it! Great pictures – I can’t believe how gorgeous it is and how uncharacteristic it is of the rest of Italy.

  2. Oh, Sara, Back in 1989 I went there with a friend and had a gorgeous time. No one had heard of it then and it was hard to drive in and go along the towns. Your pictures brought it all back. Loved it!!! Amazing place. Vernazza was full of the most picturesque small multicolored fishing boats. You look amazing!!

  3. Sara,

Andrew told me about your site and I really enjoy following you. I spent a month in Firenze studying art history in 1967 – the year after the flood.

What an amazing year for you!

I’ve been seeing a lot of Andrew as he’s been spending quite a bit of time with Peter, Hailey and Bill. We all played tennis last Sunday at the Arlington town courts.
