A Taste of the Japanese Tea Ceremony
Delicate and transparent “moon” papers from Japan
The Cotuit Center for the Arts presents a taste of the Japanese Tea Ceremony, May 5-June 10. the Event opens with a reception on Saturday May 5, from 5-7pm. the art exhibit Harmony and Balance will include traditional and ono-traditional works by Japanese-American artists and others who have been influenced by Japanese culture. I will have a display of my handmade “washi”. The paper moon series encorporates, mica, clay and kozo bark. It is made from kozo and mitsumato fibers. It was all handmade in Japan on the island of Shikoku at the home studio Kamikoya.
the Literate Print
A recent call to artists inspired me to create a series of prints integrating text and image. The Literate Print invited artists to create work encorporating words or inspired by the written word. I used this as an opportunity to explore the graphic power of the letterforms and I selected phrases from Ovid’s Metamorphoses.
Par Avion
Finished……… continuing the dialog, when I received my piece back from Strasbourg I was pleasantly surprised to find the exquisite pencil drawing over my abstract background. It hung in my studio for several weeks while I debated what to do. At first I thought the piece was finished and then I felt impelled to continue the story. I created a monotype image of a woman based on a drawing I did. She matches in some respect his inward gaze. I am so curious to know what my counterpart in Strasbourg will think. On view soon. Par Avion
Par Avion is an International Print Exchange sponsored by the Boston Strasbourg Sister City Association. The project will culminate in a group exhibition of 50 artists’ work in November, 2012 in Strasbourg, France. The Collaborative Art Project pairs together artists with a variety of image and printmaking sensibilities. The first phase of the exhibition will be onJune 5th in Boston.
Opening Reception
New paintings at Tao Water Gallery in W. Barnstable
It was exciting to see the Memorial Weekend turnout for this exhibition. The group of artists exhibited a great range of paintings, sculpture and mixed media pieces. It was a stimulating variety of work with a broad range of subject matter encompasing the figure, geometry, and abstraction.
Dian and Bao pulled together a committed group of artists who passionately love making art.

Tao Water Gallery: Cape Now / The First Invitational Exhibition
An Exciting group of fifteen artists will gather to exhibit at the Tao Water Gallery in West Barnstable. the opening reception promisses to be a gala…..bring 100 of your closest friends to see my new paintings.

Barnstable High School Exhibition
Recent talk to Barnstable High School art majors from Carl Lopes class. I was able to exhibit a large display of art from my sabbatical to Italy and Japan and to talk with students about my ideas and techniques.
The exhibition space Carl Lopes designed is well lit and versatile. It was a wonderful experience in which to participate.
